Blogs & Journalism: Process

This WebQuest aims to guide you on a step-by-step analysis of a key Web journalism issue. The project first introduces you to the basics of blogging, then shows you specific blogging examples and asks you to become an active participant in the blogosphere. In the final steps, you are asked to compare your own viewpoints on traditional journalism with a real-world example of bloggers who moved into the journalism arena.

In the end, you will have been exposed to the following:

  1. You will know how to spot a blog.
  2. You will know the technologies typically associated with a blog.
  3. You will be asked to solidify your viewpoints on traditional journalism.
  4. You will be asked to compare your own thoughts about traditional journalism against a specific example of "blog journalism."
  5. And finally, the most important thing you will obtain from this exercise is a model for examining a new issue from beginning to end. My hope is that the mental structure this exercise asks you to form will give you a foundation upon which you can confront all sorts of newsroom questions.

We're now ready to move on to the Project Tasks.
