Netflix Opens Online Viewing Floodgates ... Sorta
Netflix subscribers with Windows computers will soon be able to watch as many streaming movies as they like, with no hourly restrictions.Web-based viewing showed up on Netflix a year ago, but the company previously tied the total number of hours of allowed streaming to the type of subscription a Netflix customer held (i.e. the more you paid, the more hours you got ... fancy economics right there).
Ahh, but things are changing. According to the Associated Press, unlimited streaming will be granted to all subscribers above the company's $4.99/month tier. Soooo, if you don't mind watching blockbusters on a PC, Netflix's $8.99/month unlimited plan is looking awfully good right now.
But here's the "but" ... Netflix's streaming system only works on Internet Explorer for the PC. The AP article makes no mention of Mac compatibility (or iPhone compatibility ... can you imagine?). Of course, limited compatibility makes that Netflix/LG set-top box a lot more interesting.
