$299 TiVo HD Coming in August
(CNET)

TiVo is bringing HD DVRs to the masses ... sorta. The company's new $299 TiVo HD integrates the dual-tuner, high-definition functionality of the ridiculously expensive Series 3 TiVo ($799) with smaller capacity and a less fancy shell.

The key difference is storage: the Series 3 TiVo can record 300 hours of standard definition (SD) television or 32 hours of HD. The new TiVo HD can handle 180 hours of SD and 20 hours of HD.

I jumped on the Series 3 bandwagon exactly 30 seconds after the unit was announced last September, and I haven't regretted the exorbitant expense for one moment. I've had zero issues with the Series 3 and the HD functionality is a joy to behold. Based on reviews of the TiVo HD, it sounds like the company brought the best of the Series 3 over to the new unit -- if that's the case, then the $299 TiVo HD is certainly worth a look.

'Sacramento Bee' to Launch Video 'Letters to the Editor'
(Editor & Publisher)

Ever wonder what a letter to the editor writer looks like? Thanks to a new video initiative from the Sacramento Bee, we'll all soon find out (be afraid ...).

The letters to the editor videos are slotted to appear in a month. The lead time is necessary since video editorials come with a few curve balls, namely: editing, length restrictions, legal issues and submissions from beyond the newspaper's circulation area.

"Sartorial indiscretions" should also be added to that list ...
