U Cincinnati Links Blackboard to Text Messaging(Campus Technology)
The University of Cincinnati is getting savvy with SMS. The school recently added a text-messaging component into its Blackboard learning management system.
"Students who choose to opt in, through Blackboard, can receive a text message any time something changes within a course in Blackboard. Students with a Web-enabled cell phone plan can also receive a URL link embedded in the message and can click to view the posted change through their mobile phones."Campus Technology notes that SMS can be used for simple updates and more important campus-wide announcements, such as closures and emergencies. It's also great for nagging attendance-deficient students ... "Where RU?".
Buzzword Watch: iPod Moment
(Journalism.co.uk)
I sense a new buzzword brewing: "iPod Moment."
Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger coined the phrase during a recent committee discussion on digital media. Basically, "iPod Moment" refers to the serendipitous creation of a device that propels a medium to a new level (e.g. the iPod's tremendous effect on digital music).
Alas, the iPod-esque digital media device hasn't been invented (no, the iPhone doesn't count), but I have to believe an enterprising engineer is feverishly tinkering with something that'll synthesize the digital media landscape in ways we could never imagine ... (I can hope, right?).
