Hyper Local Journalism, Video-Style
StoryBridge.tv is an interesting Web start-up that blends local coverage with professional video production. The "professional" bit gets a boost from Katy Sai and Jay Olsen, two former Wisconsin-based TV veterans who quit their jobs to launch StoryBridge.Video/social media companies are all the rage these days, but a look at StoryBridge's home page (below) instantly separates this company from the pack: No 100x100 thumbnails, no "Newest Members" box, and none of those cliche Web 2.0 callouts (Widgets! Blogs! Widgety Blogs!). Rather, StoryBridge offers a sleek entry page that puts video storytelling at the front of the line.
The only downside comes from the actual video clips; they're infected with unnecessary jump cuts and video filters. Local broadcast reporters/editors seem to rely on these hipster techniques, but a good story should be able to stand on its own. If StoryBridge ditches the swirly, zippy stuff, they'll really be on to something.
