White Hat Tips for Social Media Traffic
Search Engine Watch has one of the most useful social media articles I've ever read. The piece contains a number of strategies for driving traffic through Digg, Reddit and other social media hubs, but the great thing is that all of this stuff is white hat, so you won't suffer spammy night sweats. The article is worth a full look, but here are a few pearls of wisdom I found useful:
→ Spend plenty of time crafting titles and descriptions. On Digg "many people don't actually look at the article at all."→ Submit articles around mid-day on weekdays.
→ Pay attention to the "original linkbaiters," magazines like Cosmo that "try to draw readers in with short, interesting titles on the cover."
→ "The increased traffic from these [social media] efforts could be compared to a comparable level of traffic from paid search, SEO, or even e-mail marketing."
