Classifieds and Social Media:
Facebook to Offer Free Classifieds (New York Times)
I've always preferred Facebook over other social media destinations. Mark Zuckerberg and Co. just seem to understand the concept better than other folks -- especially in regards to privacy -- and, on a superficial level, I appreciate Facebook's simple design (it's the anti-MySpace).

Now, Facebook is looking to boost its profile with a free classified service. Classified ads will focus on housing, jobs, merchandise ("for sale") and a miscellaneous "other" category.

"Facebook users who create classifieds can choose to show them only to their designated friends on the service, or to anyone in one of their 'networks' — their high school, college, company or geographic region. They can choose to make the listings appear on their profile pages, and send them out on 'news feeds,' the automatic updates that appear when users log in to the site.
College students already use Facebook and Craig's List, so it makes a ton of sense for Facebook to bring Craig-like utility under the site's umbrella.
