Journalism Business:
Why Wall St. Journal Editors Held News of Murdoch Bid (New York times)
"Who knew what, when" is tricky business on its own, but toss in stock valuations and public media companies and you have a two-headed edit-finance monster.

On the day News Corp's bid for Dow Jones went public, Dow Jones' stock soared 50 percent, and now the SEC wants to know if anyone benefited from the offer before the story broke.

"It is not unusual for senior editors at news organizations to balance their corporate and editorial roles when faced with these kind of decisions [breaking stories about themselves]. But one unusual aspect of this story was that some investors may also have learned about the deal before the news broke, and traded on that information."
Ethical dilemmas like this can cause brain hemorrhages and that's why top editors at organizations like the Wall Street Journal earn the big bucks. This stuff isn't easy.

Internet Research:
A Typology of Information and Communication Technology Users (Pew Internet)
Pew has released another Internet report that's super interesting to bloggers (like me) and Webby types, but has minimal use for folks who don't spend 7-plus hours per day in front of a monitor.

The latest report, saddled with the clunky title "A Typology of Information and Communication Technology Users," classifies Web users in the Web 2.0 world. At the top of the heap you'll find "Ominvores":

"Omnivores are Web 2.0 devotees. They are highly engaged with video online and digital content. Between blogging, maintaining their Web pages, remixing digital content, or posting their creations to their websites, they are creative participants in cyberspace. When the next popular user-generated fashion comes along, Omnivores are likely to test-drive it. One might even invent it."
I guess I'm an omnivore, which means I'm a minority because only 8 percent of respondents fall into this category. Maybe myself and the other 8 percenters can collaborate on a cell phone widget or something.
