Technorati: Grassroots Publicity Tool

July 6, 2006 1:48 AM Posted by mac

200607-technorati.jpg I've had my issues with Technorati, but the popularity of this blog service is too significant to ignore. Moreover, it's ridiculously easy to incorporate Technorati into your grassroots publicity efforts -- especially if you use Movable Type as your content management system (which I do).

Here's the trick for MT users:

  • Log in to your Movable Type system.

  • Go to your blog's Settings.

  • Click on New Entry Defaults.

  • Scroll down to the Publicity/Remote Interfaces section and make sure the "technorati.com" option is checked.

  • Save changes and rebuild your site.

  • Blam! Done.
If you have multiple blogs, repeat the same process. From this point on, every post you create will ping Technorati and, hopefully, end up in Technorati's listings. I haven't seen major lift from Technorati, but since the process is automatic there's really no reason not to incorporate it into your efforts.

Have you used Technorati for publicity purposes? Which publicity tools work best for you? Please share your thoughts and wisdom below!
