Digg: Grassroots Publicity Tool
The deep love I have for Digg borders on the absurd. And now that they've expanded their topic areas to include entertainment, I'm as giddy as a five-year-old with an 80-ounce Mountain Dew Big Gulp.
Like del.icio.us, submitting to Digg is so easy there's no reason not to do it. You can either submit stories manually through the Submit a New Story link, or, if you want to get geeky, you can add a wee bit of code to the Movable Type individual entry archive template (note: I don't use Wordpress, but a quick Google search turned up listings for comparable functionality).
The MT/Digg code snippet I use is:
<a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url= <$MTEntryPermalink$>&title=<$MTEntryTitle encode_html="1"$>" title="Submit <$MTEntryTitle remove_html="1"$> to Digg">Digg This</a>
To translate:
- MTEntryPermalink: This is the full URL of the post. Including it in the string allows it to auto-populate the Digg URL field in the Submit a New Story form.
- MTEntryTitle: This is the headline of the post. It will automatically appear in Digg's "Story Title" field.
Note: All credit for this code snippet needs to go to Miles Evans. For more great MT/Digg information, you should definitely check out his article, "Adding a Digg Link to Movabletype."
