WebQuest: Blogs and Journalism

May 1, 2006 12:29 PM Posted by mac

This WebQuest was originally developed for graduate-level journalism students at Emerson College. With modifications, it could be reworked for both undergrads and high school journalism students.

Here's an excerpt from the WebQuest:

"Blog" is a fancy buzzword that's causing all sorts of consternation in online journalism circles. Some journalists love blogs. Others break out into itchy hives whenever the word is uttered. In this exercise, you'll be asked to critically evaluate a variety of blogs with the goal of answering one simple question: Do blogs count as journalism?

The following WebQuest guides you through a case study that strikes at the core of the blogs/journalism issue. There are no right or wrong answers, rather, the goal is to help you form an opinion around this important newsroom topic.
